ROH Newswire for 7/22/08

July 22nd: It feels like it has been way too long since ROH has had live shows. We can’t wait to return to action this Friday in Toronto and this Saturday in Detroit for a pay-per-view taping. You can get tickets for under $10 now at www.ROHwrestling.com for both events. This could potentially be ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness’ toughest weekend yet as he is scheduled for two World Title Matches. The Toronto debut will see McGuinness put the belt on the line against Canada’s own Kevin Steen. So far, Nigel has had to pull the tights and hold the ropes to beat Steen. Meanwhile, Steen made McGuinness tap in the middle of the ring to the Sharpshooter and he had Nigel beat with the Package Piledriver, but Nigel was too close to the ropes. Steen will definitely have home field advantage in this one. The winner of Toronto will then put the World Title on the line 24 hours later against a very determined Claudio Castagnoli. In fact, Castagnoli has suggested that he will leave ROH is he does not win the belt. Go to the main page of ROHwrestling.com to read Castagnoli’s surprising statement or click here: http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=2169

2008 WWE Great American Bash Coverage As It Happens 7/20/08

REFRESH YOUR BROWSER.  UPDATED FREQUENTLY.  Feel free to leave comments!

Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum

Long Island, NY

Fatal Four Way for the WWE Tag Titles is up first.  Here come John Morrison and The Miz.  I have no idea why the champions are coming out first.  Curt Hawkins and Zach Ryder out next.  Jesse and Festus out next.  Followed by Finlay and Hornswoggle.  JR and Foley mention how Festus “transforms” when the bell rings ala Delirious from ROH.  Bell rings, Festus goes nuts and everyone clears the ring.  Miz and Morrison throw Hornswoggle into the ring with Festus.  Hornswoggle is putting his sleeves up and getting ready for a fight.  He dives to the floor onto Miz and Morrison.  Now its Miz in the ring with Festus.  Festus is working him over.  Festus tags in Jesse.  Festus is tagged back in.  Finlay tags himself in.  Miz tagged Morrison in.  Miz tagged back in.  Morrison tags himself in and he and Miz double team Finlay.  Morrison with the cover, near fall.  Morrison tags Miz back in.  Miz tags Morrison back in.  Finlay and Morrison collide heads.  Ryder tagged him self in, hes in there with Finlay now.  Hawkins gets tagged in.  Finlay takes him down.  Hawkins back on top of him.  Finlay has taken a beating the whole time he has been in there.  Ryder gets tagged back in.  Finley hits the Finlay Roll.  Ryder covers Finlay, Hornswoggle with the save.  Hawkins tagged back in.  Headlock on Finlay.  Hornswoggle tags in.  Hes a house of fire!  Jesse tags himself in when Hornswoggle ran the ropes.  Festus tagged back in.  Takes out both the Edgeheads.  He just took out both Miz and Morrison also.  Hawkins knocked Jesse off the top rope when he was going for a splash and got the pin.  Winners and new WWE TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS: Curt Hawkins and Zach Ryder.

Great American Bash 2008 Preview

Natalya vs. Michelle McCool to crown the first Divas Champion on Smackdown.  Don’t get me wrong, Michelle is a fine piece of ass.  But in a female wrestler, I want someone who can actually wrestle and Natalya is most likely the best women’s wrestler in WWE.  If you haven’t seen her SHIMMER matches, go buy the DVDs from ROH right now.  I don’t why they need another women’s belt, they are obviously trying to capitalize on TNA’s kick ass Knockouts division. I am going to go with Natalya as new Diva Champion.

Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho.  This feud started to get better when Jericho tosses HBK through the Jeri-tron.  I really don’t like how they have interacted so much with eachother.  I would’ve had them barred from touching eachother until the PPV.  But, maybe they would’ve done that if there was actually someone in charge of RAW.  If they hadn’t gotten ahold of eachother for the past few weeks, it would’ve meant more when they had the match.  Its too late now though, I am sure it’ll be a very good match.  I am hoping more for a relaxed rules match where they destroy eachother.  Even though it ended in a no contest, I would like to have them handle this match like they did Taker/HBK at Ground Zero in 97.  That was a fucking classic match at the time.  I think Jericho is going to get the win here.

Match Added To Great American Bash

Matt Hardy vs. Shelton Benjamin for the US title has been added to the PPV this Sunday.  Makes sense…CONSIDERING SHELTON IS ON SMACKDOWN NOW.  My guess is Shelton wins to get the title back on Smackdown.

Don’t forget to come back Sunday at 8pm EST for our coverage of The Great American Bash as it happens.
