WWE Unforgiven 2008 Results and Thoughts
The ECW Championship Scramble is on first. Matt Hardy and The Miz are out first. Chavo is out next. He immediately goes to the top rope and pins Matt Hardy with a Frog Splash. Matt pinned Chavo, so now he is ECW Champion. Here comes Mark Henry. Mark Henry pinned Chavo, so now he is champion again. Crowd is quiet as hell and the announcers are trying to come up with reasons why. Here comes Finlay. Finlay pins Hardy. Matt Hardy pins The Miz, hes intermin ECW Champion again. Miz is bleeding from his face. Matt spent the last minute just throwing everyone out of the ring and breaking up pinfalls so he could retain the title. It worked. Winner: And New ECW Champion, Matt Hardy. I don’t even know what to say about the match. It wasn’t bad but there was just too much going on. It was hard to enjoy. I think it could’ve been better if everyone started the match at the same time.
Matt and Jeff are in the back and Matt tells Jeff that him winning the WWE Title would make the night even better.
World Tag Team Title Match is up next. Cody Rhodes/Ted Dibiase vs. Cryme Tyme. They did the same thing they did at the Rochester house show. Cody DDT’d Chad behind the refs back and Ted made the cover, but this time, Gaspar got his leg on the rope. He tagged in JTG, he went for a Small Package on Cody, but Ted flipped JTG over and Cody pinned him in a Small Package. Winners: And Still World Tag Team Champions, Ted Dibiase and Cody Rhodes. After the match, Afa Jr. came out and saved Cody/Ted from Cryme Tyme and took them out. Looks like theres a new stable on RAW, sweet.
HBK vs. Chris Jericho is on now. How fucking stupid is that? Should be main eventing. HBK is in street clothes and attacks Jericho before the bell rings. 15 seconds into the match and HBK is already beating Jericho with his boot. HBK has his arm all taped up. You can tell HBK is favoring his arm. He is holding it close to him and trying not to move it. Maybe he is just working it, but if he is, he is doing a good job. Ok yea, his arm isn’t badly hurt as he is acting. He just gave Jericho repeated elbows with it. Cade just came out, clotheslined HBK. They put HBK’s arm against the ring post and Cade hit it with a running knee. Now they are double teaming Jericho in the ring. Now Cade is holding HBK’s arm on the mat and Jericho hit it with a chair. They tried to put HBK’s arm in a chair and Jericho went to the top to crush his arm in the chair but HBK knocked Cade into the ropes, knocking Jericho down. HBK hit Cade with the Superkick. Then he hit Jericho with a chair knocking him off the top through a table out on the floor. HBK put Cade on top of the RAW announcer’s table. He is going to the top rope now, he stops, grabs Jericho and puts him on top of Cade. Now he is going to the top. He hits an Elbow Drop on top of them both putting them through the table. HBK is dragging Jericho into the ring. Crowd is completely silent. HBK is taking off his belt. He whiped him with it repeatedly. He then wrapped it around his left hand and repeatedly punched Jericho in the face. Jericho wasn’t responding so the ref called for the bell. Winner: Shawn Michaels. The ref was checking on Jericho but HBK jumped back on top and kept punching him in the face. Ref is trying to reason with HBK, but gets a Sweet Chin Music for his efforts. Three more refs come out and try to help Jericho. HBK got on his knees acting like he can’t believe what he just did, like he was praying for forgiveness. Match started off fucking awesome. I love wild brawls. But, eventually, it turned into a slow methodical brawl, which really isn’t my thing. Still a good match. Should’ve been the main event. HBK hangs his head as he walks to the back.
Ted/Cody are in the back, Orton comes in and they introduce Afa’s son as Manu, spelling is probably wrong. Orton tells them he wasn’t impressed with them or their win. They looked disappointed. Orton is fucking awesome. I think he is my second favorite guy in WWE right now, behind Punk.
WWE Championship Scramble match is next. Jeff Hardy is out first. Shelton will start out the match with him. Hardy pinned Kendrick. Kendrick pinned Jeff after a Sliced Bread #2. HHH pinned Kendrick after a Pedigree. Jeff then pinned MVP. HHH then hit another Pedigree on Kendrick. Jeff then pinned Kendrick. Then HHH hit MVP with a Pedigree with a few seconds left, Jeff was close enough to break up the pin with 2 seconds left, but he was an idiot and went to pin Shelton instead. Winner: And Still WWE Champion, HHH. That made no sense, he could’ve easily broke up the pin and been champion. Match was good though, maybe the best match of the night.
Divas Championship is next. Holy shit. I am in shock. That might be one of the best women’s matches I’ve seen in WWE all year. Michelle got the pin by Suplexing Maryse face first into the mat. That was way better than I expected. Winner: And Still Divas Champion, Michelle McCool.
Adamle came out and said that Punk might not be able to compete in the main event and if he can’t Adamle will have to find a suitable replacement.
Big Show comes out and says that Adamle should choose him to be the replacement. Big Show asks the crowd if they would vote for him to be in the Scramble and they cheer, he says thanks. His music plays, but Vickie comes out. She calls him a big, dumb giant. Vickie tells him to get out of her ring and to go to the back. Monk type music starts playing, druids are coming out with a casket. Taker is on the big screen, he says the Vickie belongs in the casket, but is she going to go herself or is Taker going to have to come down there and send her to hell. Taker’s music hits, lights go out. Show has ahold of Vickie. I could see Show turning here, backing Vickie. He does. Taker goes for Vickie, Big Show punches him. Crowd is completely silent, yet again. Show beat the shit out of him until he was limp, then held him up for Vickie to slap, then she spit in his face. What they should’ve done is put Taker in the casket and have a Casket Match at Survivor Series. This better lead to that or a Buried Alive match.
World Heavyweight Scramble is on now. Batista and JBL start it off. Kane is next. He Chokeslams JBL, pins him. Mysterio comes out next. Jericho’s music hits, he is Punk’s replacement. Kane who is currently the intermin champion, went for a pin like a moron. Batista hit Kane with a Spinebuster and covered him for a 3 count. Batista Powerbombed Rey with about 10 seconds left, when Jericho, who was on the outside the whole time he was in the match, snuck in the ring and pinned Kane. Winner: And New World Heavyweight Champion, Chris Jericho. Not a bad match. I wish it had been Orton who won the title and not Jericho, but I guess Orton isn’t ready.
