ROH “New Horizons” PPV Results and Thoughts
ROH - “New Horizons” Results
PPV starts off with Jimmy Jacobs and Tyler Black in the ring saying that for the first time on ROH PPV, the tag belts won’t be defended. Out comes Jay Briscoe and the returning from injury, Mark Briscoe and they clear the ring. Jay gets the mic and says lets do this, AOTF walks to the back but they are met at the curtain by Aries who attacks them both and they go to the back. Briscoes are in the ring with Prazak and he tells them they have stand by opponents to face.
Mitch Franklin/Silas Young vs. The Briscoes. Quick squash, all Briscoes. They hit the Springboard Doomsday Device for the win. Winners: The Briscoes.
After the match they show a video of the Briscoes driving trucks, shooting guns, drinking beers, and fighting eachother. They say they are going back to their roots and they have gotten too flashy for the crowd. They are going back to brawling.
Erik Stevens vs. Delirious vs. Ruckus vs. Shane Hagadorn. Another quick match. Ruckus hit a nice Moonsault Legdrop on Delirious, then Erik Stevens hit Hagadorn with the Doctor Bomb to get the win. Winner: Erik Stevens.
After the match Austin Aries comes out and grabs a mic. He says that his feud with Jimmy Jacobs is more than a blood feud. Its something the fans will never understand. He calls Jacobs out. Jimmy comes out, Black tries to attack Aries from behind but he sees him and takes him out. MsChif then comes out and low blows Aries. AOTF attacks Aries and Jacobs goes after him with a hook. The locker room comes out and takes Aries to the back.
Kevin Steen comes out and says he and Generico want a shot at the tag titles. Jacobs says they have to earn it. Steen says they have on every PPV. But Steen says OK, Necro Butcher attacks him from behind. Prazak informs us this is now a match and it is No DQ.
Kevin Steen vs. Necro Butcher No DQ. Good brawl. Steen hit Necro with a Package Piledriver on a chair for the win. Winner: Kevin Steen.
Go Shiozaki/Chris Hero w/Sweet N Sour Inc. vs. Naomichi Marufuji/Roderick Strong. Sweeney offers Marufuji a spot in SNS Inc before the match. Marufuji gives him the finger. Sweeney says he won’t accept that and that they aren’t wrestling tonight. They start to head to the back, but Lance Storm meets him at the curtain and says he came here to see the best damn locker room in the business wrestle. He makes them go back to the ring and says he is going to stay out there to make sure Sweeney doesn’t get involved. Good match. Strong pinned Hero with a Backbreaker. Winners: Naomichi Marufuji/Roderick Strong. After the match, Lance Storm is raising the winners hands and SNS Inc attack them from behind and lay out Storm.
Brent Albright does a promo in the back and his face is covered in bandages. He says his kids are scared of him and he is going to make sure Pearce’s face looks like his does.
ROH World Title Match - Champion: Nigel McGuinness vs. Claudio Castagnoli. Claudio starts the match off with a big boot and a Ricola Bomb, but Nigel kicked out at 2. They made their way to the outside and Nigel got control and hit Claudio with the Tower Of London to the floor. Awesome match. Claudio hit Nigel with everything he had, but Nigel hit the Jawbreaker Lariat for the win to retain the ROH World Title. Winner: And Still ROH Champion, Nigel McGuinness.
“American Dragon” Bryan Danielson vs. Tyler Black. At one point, Tyler Black Powerbombed Danielson into the turnbuckle, which broke the top rope off. That looked insane. Crowd goes nuts, they are on the feet. There is currently no top rope. Black hit the Small Package Driver, but Danielson kicked out at 2. Danielson hit Black with numerous elbows and Black wasn’t defending himself so Todd Sinclair called for the bell. Winner: due to ref stoppage, Bryan Danielson. GREAT, match. Fantastic. Maybe the best match ROH has had on PPV. You have to see this.
After the match Aries comes out and attacks Jacobs while he is checking on Black. They are still brawling, they are in the crowd now. Fans keep giving Jacobs chairs to use on Aries, which is odd. Now a fan gave Aries a chair to use himself. Repeatedly hitting Jacobs in the face with it. Aries sees a ladder and drags it to over where Jimmy is. “Please don’t die” chants. Aries puts Jacobs on the table. Aries is climbing the ladder. Jacobs throws a chair at Aries and drags him off the ladder. Now Aries is on the table and Jimmy is climbing the ladder. Aries tries to stop him. He is climbing to the top from the other side. Necro Butcher comes out with a chair and doesn’t know who to hit. He then pushes the ladder over and both Aries and Jacobs fall of the ladder through tables. PPV goes off air.
Pretty good PPV. The first three matches went by very fast, but the second half was fantastic. Buy a replay if you didn’t get the debut.
