Springfield, MA

I went to the WWE House show tonight with my wife and I just thought I would pass along some notes on the house show tonight in Springfield MA. I would say it was about 80 % full, it isn’t a very big place.

Before the show, I saw Tim White and Dean Malenko talking.

Tony Chimmel did the ring announcing tonight with Eve as out guest hostess. Tony Chimmel started out by announcing that John Cena would not be there tonight and refunds would be issued up until the second match. This got a lot of heat from the crowd.

Next up, Eve was up in the stands and she asked one kid who he was looking forward to seeing…he said John Cena. Next up was his brother or his friend and…yup, he said John Cena to. Awkward moment for sure. Eve then moved on to the trivia question which was “Which City hosted Wrestlemania this year” which the family got right which entitled them to upgraded tickets to the front row.

Before the National Anthem (Pre recorded just music) and our first match, we were told we could text for the main events stipulation, same as other dates - Falls count anywhere, 2/3 falls and No DQ.

Our first match was Evan Bourne vs. Mike Knox. Standard match with Evan’s usual insane moves which were awesome to see live. 1 Shooting Star Press later and Even Bourne is the winner.

Next up was a Fatal Four Way for the WWE Tag Team Championship. The sweet sounds of Biscuits and Gravy blared and Jesse and Festus made there way out. Next up was Hawkins and Ryder, followed by Finley and Hornswoggle to what sounded like new music.. and then the champs of Miz and Morrison came out. Cool little match. Before the bell rang, Festus was staring at Hornswoggle and then Festus rubbed Hornswoggle’s goatee. A lot of back and forth action which led to… I believe it was Morrison who pinned Jesse after Miz tripped Festus who was setting up for the rocket launcher. An odd moment after the match, Festus and Jesse and Hornswoggle and Finley were in the ring just talking to each other, Festus kept leaving and Finley kept calling him back. Then Finley nailed both with the Shillelagh and Hornswoggle and Finley left to cheers.

We next had a summer Divas dance contest. The participants were.. Maryse, Leyla, Jillian Hall, Lia (I think that was her name), Natalya Neidhart and Kelly Kelly. This was the typical deal with the women. Maryse and Leyla danced a bit, stripped a little and then it was time for Jillian. She started to sing and all the divas beat her up. They all left except for Kelly Kelly who says they didn’t get to see more of her body and she said to hit the music which she did a little dance.

Next up was Match number 3 but was also match number 2 in our warm up for the pay per view series of matches as Mark Henry with Tony Atlas defended the ECW title against Tommy Dreamer. Mark gave Tommy the chance to leave but Tommy had none of it, saying that Springfield people paid hard earned money to see him kick his butt all over the ring. Dreamer however lost. lol

We then had our main event of the first half as Umaga and Khali came down, they were facing The Big Show and Triple H. Triple H was in for quite a long time getting beat up and once Big Show came in and choke slammed Khali, after a couple more minutes, Triple H was back in and Khali took the Pedigree and Big Show/Triple H were your winners.

After intermission, we learned that there would be two kids pulled from the audience, first as a guest time keeper for the match and one child was chosen to manage a mystery tag team later in the night.

Next up was a match for the Intercontinental Championship as Kofi Kingston wrestled Paul Burchill. A good back and forth match with Kofi winning.

The following match was a tag team match. First out were Shelton Benjamin and MVP vs. the Hardy Boyz. Funny part to start with, Matt was about to toss a Hardys shirt to the crowd when Shelton and MVP got it and sneezed on it and then they tore it apart. Well, Matt Hardy got MVP’s shirt and he was about to throw it to the crowd but Jeff went into the crowd and Matt threw it to him and Jeff threw it back. Really funny. Place went nuts for the Hardys. The end saw Shelton Benjamin taking a twist of fate followed by a Swanton Bomb and the Hardys are your winners.

Then it was main event time, for the World Heavyweight Championship, Batista vs. CM Punk in warm up match number three for the PPV. This one was a No DQ match. Nothing real major happened here. A chair, the mic and the steps were used but not much at all. Finish saw CM Punk win. He had the chair hidden and when Batista came to spear him, he hit the chair and that was that.

It was a fun time. The surprising thing was…Chris Jericho, Shawn Michaels, John Cena, Kane, Rey Mysterio, Cryme Tyme, Dibiasi and Rhodes, Edge, Mr. Kennedy and JBL were all not there…it felt like they had it be a “Super Show” because they didn’t have nearly any of the top stars, which was a disappointment. But, it was fun none the less. It felt like this might have been how it would have been back in the 80’s when they had split shows.. and Hogan headlined one show and the IC champion would headline another show.

Credit goes to Bob Jacobsen for those.
